RoughRiders 2017 Spring Development Program Overview
After having met with, and listened to many of our families, the RoughRiders Hockey Club is making changes to our Spring Development Program. The Spring program will no longer be a tryout/evaluation team selection process that includes a tournament. Instead, the RoughRiders Spring program will have its main focus be on pure hockey and athlete development, through on ice and off ice training sessions. We have added additional ice times and reduced the cost to maximize participation and development. These training sessions will be rigorous and physically demanding. This program will now be more closely aligned with how we operate our fall teams. The RoughRiders Hockey Club AAA Program is known across the country as one of the top Tier I programs for top players in their age groups to train, develop, play, and earn opportunities to play at the next level of junior, college and NHL. The RoughRiders Spring program will be where players are pushed and challenged to develop and get better in all aspects of development both on and off the ice.
The RoughRiders Spring Program will be used to identify players for our fall teams. Players that are interested in becoming a part of our RoughRiders family are strongly encouraged to participate in our Spring Program. The dates for the spring program will now lead into tryouts and will have players ready to compete for spots on one of our fall teams or to make the jump to the next level within their home club. Let’s put the time, energy and resources of our young athletes into true hockey development, come and train with the RoughRiders Hockey Club!!

*Players will be grouped with players of like ability to enhance and encourage skill development. If we have a birth year group with large numbers, we will split the group into two sessions and groups will be split based on ability. The RoughRiders Hockey Club reserves the right to move players between sessions or remove players.
1 session per week will be designed to develop and challenge players in all the individual skill aspects of development with repetitive muscle memory patterns such as, dynamic skating and edges, puck skills, shooting, giving and receiving passes.
1 session per week will be designed toward developing the individual game skills. This session will build on the individual skills and add in decision-making processes with a teammate or an opponent with a progression into small area games that incorporate those individual skills and decision-making processes.
On weeks where we have a third session, that session will be dedicated to power skating skills. Edges, turns, cutbacks, transitions, stride mechanics, etc.
Goaltenders- Goaltenders will have one goalie session per week with our RoughRiders Goaltending coach – Timm Lorenz. Goalies will be challenged to compete and work on reading plays, rebound control, and to become more hockey aware through competition in small area games and skill drills.
*Once each birth year group is together, families and coaches may choose to attend a tournament later in the Spring or Summer. This will be at an additional cost.
Cost - $625 – includes all on ice and off ice sessions (15 on ice and 6 off ice) jersey and socks.
