The Rocky Mountain RoughRiders would like to congratulate the RoughRiders that were selected in the USHL Phase I Draft that was held on Monday, May 7, 2018. Phase I of the USHL Draft is ten rounds of “Futures” age players only, which are U17 players for next year’s season; 2002 birth year players for the 2018 draft.
Makai Mitchell was selected in the 9th Round by the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders. Mitchell, a 6' Defenseman from Fort Collins, CO, has been a part of the RoughRiders organization for the past three seasons. Mitchell played on the 13U, 14U and 16U teams from 2105-2018. "The RoughRiders have believed in Makai from day one. He’s a big kid with a big heart. The work he puts in everyday, his strength of character, that’s why he’ll continue to be a RoughRider in the USHL," said Coach Huckins.
Winter Wallace was selected in the 7th Round by the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders. Wallace. a 6'3" Forward from Boulder, CO, was a member of the Rocky Mountain RoughRiders 12U Tournament team, 13U and 14U teams from 2014-2017. "You want to talk about a guy that is determined, that’s Winter Wallace. He eats, breathes and sleeps the game of hockey. So proud that he will be a RoughRider again," said Coach Huckins.
Aidan Thompson was selected in the 2nd Round by the Lincoln Stars. Thompson, a 5'8" Forward from Fort Collins, CO, was a member of the Rocky Mountain RoughRiders 12U Tournament team, 13U and 14U teams from 2014-17. "Aidan is one of the most competitive young men I've come across. He has high end athletic ability and an outstanding hockey IQ," said Coach Huckins.
